Figure of speech
figure of speech
let's learn together, I also don't really understand this, but from what I read on the internet. Reporting from Brittanica, figurative is an expression or figure of speech used for literacy needs both oral and written. Speech images serve to beautify English words which are usually used to write song, poetry, and even prose. (dalam bahasa indonesia figurative of speech = majas)
in the figurative of speech there are several examples such as simile, hyperbole, metaphor personification, etc.
hyperbole
this hyperbole tense seems to exaggerate something.
example:
I've told you to stop a thousand times.
That must have cost a billion dollars.
I could do this forever.
She's older than dirt.
Everybody knows that.
personification
the point is that the sentence used in the sentence gives a picture of the object as if the object is alive.
example:
The flowers nodded.
Dancing snowflakes.
The thunder grumbled.
The mist slipped in.
The wind howled.
metaphor
It is a figure of speech used to compare something or an idea.
example:
Heart of stone
Time is money
The world is a stage
She’s a night owl
falling in love
simile
is a figure of speech that compares or presupposes something or an object. Sometimes, similes like to be confused with metaphors which also have a form of comparison. In fact, simile and metaphore have different structures. Simile has the characteristics of the words like, as, or similar to.
example:
As slippery as an eel
Like peas in a pod
As blind as a bat
Eats like a pig
As wise as an owl
