EXPOSITION TEXT

 

 

 

 >  Definition 

a series of sentences that summarize and parse arguments about an idea from the author

exposition text is usually also associated with analytical text 

>  The type of the exposition text

    - Analytical Exposition

         This type of text begins with an explanation of the author's opinion on the theme being discussed. Then, arguments followed afterwards to support that opinion. Finally, the author closes by affirming the opinion at the beginning. You can also rewrite the opinion.

    -  Hortatory Exposition

         For this one, the text begins with an explanation of the theme or problem being discussed. Then, the evidence and arguments supporting the topic are written. And, this argument is also made so that you as a reader, know or even better agree with the opinion of the author. At the end, the author closes with a solution, suggestion or recommendation about the problem written at the beginning.

When you look at the two types, you can find the striking differences. In analytical exposition, your ideas and views are displayed prominently at the beginning. Followed by a supporting opinion to make the reader understand.

While hortatory exposition , you reverse the process. Problems at the beginning, continued with argumentation, and all of that was designed to convey your opinion. You can choose both according to your needs and comfort in writing.

> Language Features or Linguistic Elements

1.  Using the simple present tense
2.     Many use conjunctions (conjunctions) such as because of, so, therefore, the reason, and others.
3.     Contains arguments.
4.     Many use words that contain cause and effect
5.     Using vocabulary that can evoke the reader's emotions such as: amused, concern, innocent, monster, unreasonable etc.
   

>  Generic Structure

Thesis: in the hortatory exposition this section will contain the issue or problem to be raised while in the analytical exposition this section will contain the position, opinion or attitude of the author.

Argument: contains opinions / arguments that the author began to present. Both the hortatory exposition and the analytical exposition have the same explanation in this section.

Reiteration: reiteration is a conclusion. The hortatory exposition will contain recommendations or suggestions from the author on the problem that is the theme of the writing, while in the analytical exposition, this section will contain a re-statement from the author

>  Purposes:

       1.      To persuade the readers that idea is important matter. 

       2.      To persuade the readers or listeners that there is something that, certainly, needs to

     That's a little discussion about text exposition. Hopefully you can understand the text about how to

>  Analytical Exposition Text – Smoking

Smoking should Be Banned In Public Area

(Thesis)

Have you ever come home with the stench of smoke clinging to your clothes? Or inhaled a cloud of smoke as a group of smokers passed, causing you to cough and choke? Neither experience is pleasant, and this is why smoking should be banned in public areas.

(Argument)

Many countries today have laws that prohibit smoking in public places. It is because smoking affects not only the person who smoke but also non smokers as well.

Secondhand smoke is the third leading cause of preventable death (after active smoking and alcohol), according to the Manitoba Medical Association. They also say that the smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, 50 of which are known to be cancer-related.

Secondhand smoke has been linked to heart and respiratory disease; lung, breast, cervical, and nasal sinus cancers; strokes and miscarriages.

In children, dangers include sudden infant death syndrome, fetal growth impairment, bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma and middle-ear disease.

Smoking is a dangerous habit that not only affects the smoker, but those around him or her. Banning the smoking in public will keep non-smokers safer. People who smoke subject themselves to deadly diseases by choice. Why should non-smokers be forced to be around it?

> HORTATORY

   Social media is an online media in which the users can easily participate, share, and create the content of blog, social networking, and the virtual world. Blog and social networking is the form of social media that mostly used by the community around the world.

   Social media, with its various features which are provided, certainly brings positive impacts for the users. On the other hand, social media can also cause negative impacts if it is not wisely used, especially for children and teenagers. In this case, it really needs attention from parents and teachers to monitor the children and teenagers from the negative impact of social media. For the worst, we have to restrict them to use social media.

   There are many negative impacts of social media for children and teenagers. First, children and teenagers become lazy to communicate in real world. Their understanding of the language is disturbed. If a child is too much communicating in the virtual world, then their knowledge about the details of communicating in real life, like body language and tone of voice, will be declined.
Second, social networking sites will make children and teenagers more self-interested. They are not conscious of the environment around them, because most of their time is spent on the internet. This can cause children to be less empathetic in the real world.

   Third, for children and teenagers, there is no the rules of spelling and grammar in social networking. This will make them more difficult to distinguish between communicating on social networking sites and the real world. This clearly would affect their writing and speaking skills at school.

   Fourth, the assumption that internet is identical with pornography is not wrong. With its ability of information dissemination owned by the internet, pornography is rampant. To anticipate it, the producers of browser complete their program with the ability to choose a home page that can be accessed. On the internet, there are many images of pornography and violence that can be the impulse to someone to do criminal acts.

   Fifth, social networking site is fertile land for the predators to commit a crime. We will never know if someone new whom our children just know on the internet, uses the real identity or not. Fraud is rampant in every field. The internet is not excluded from an impostor’s attack. The best ways is not to heed or confirm any information you get from the information provider.

   Last, credit card is the most used way in the internet world of the internet. The cyber criminals often commit in this field. By the open system, the criminals are able to detect the online transaction (using a credit card) and record the code of cards that are used. Then, they use the data they get for their business of wickedness.

   In conclusion, social media has many negative impacts to children and teenagers. They have to be restricted in using social media due to many negative impacts of it. That is not good yet for them since they cannot decide which one is good or bad.
